How to Heal Tooth Decay Naturally; The Simplest Start That Actually Works

Even with the best of intentions and discipline, people fail to heal their teeth every day. That’s mostly because they are trying to do too much at once.

When you look at many blogs and articles telling you how to heal your teeth, the advice seems to require flipping your whole life upside down. Change your whole diet, eat like an angry hunter-gatherer who doesn’t like sweets… stop enjoying life or lose your teeth. Your choice.

That approach just made me a little depressed and overwhelmed, and my teeth paid the price.

So I stopped trying to “do it right” and decided to start with just one thing.

How I keep my teeth healthy and strong

When I first started trying to heal my teeth, the sheer volume of advice was paralyzing.

Cut grains.
Cut sugar.
Rebuild meals.
Eat organs… and like it.

None of that was wrong, exactly. It was just too much to implement all at once. And when everything feels urgent, consistency feels impossible.

So I forced myself to slow down and choose a starting point.

Step one was cod liver oil with butter oil.

Nothing else changed at first.

That single step was enough to slow and stabilize decay that was already active.

And the effectiveness of that step gave me courage and fortitude to take the next step, and then the one after that… and then the one after that. The bottom line issue came down to incorporating better raw materials and minerals, not crucifying my flesh. (use code WISEMAMA for 10% off at checkout)

Green Pasture Fermented Code Liver Oil and Butter Oil used as a simple first step to help heal tooth decay naturally

I use Green Pasture’s Brand for a few very practical reasons.

  • It combines cod liver oil with butter oil, (use code WISEMAMA for 10% off at checkout) which creates the perfect delivery system for fat-soluble vitamins.
  • There are flavored and unflavored options, which makes daily use realistic.
  • The nutrients are bioavailable, not synthetic stand-ins that my body won’t recognize. So, it actually works.
  • And the price point doesn’t turn consistency into a financial stressor.

I use the Weston A. Price Foundation’s recommendations for how much to take. You can find that here.

That’s the foundation. Without it, everything else feels harder than it needs to be.

Step two came later: more vitamin C and fewer grains.

Vitamin C supports tissue repair and helps buffer inflammation, even when the diet isn’t perfect. That’s a big deal for anyone dealing with a compromised or irritated gut. (You can find out how I make mine here.)

I didn’t eliminate grains overnight… Nor even forever… I paid attention instead.

In my case, bloating was the signal. Persistent bloating is a symptom of inflammation.

Inflammation interferes with nutrient absorption. When nutrients don’t get absorbed, teeth lose access to what they need to stay mineralized.

It took time to figure out which grains I tolerated well. That process only worked because the mineral foundation was already in place, and I keep sufficient vitamin C in my system to help counteract potential inflammation.

So while dietary tweaks matter and gut health matters, none of it sticks if you haven’t addressed fat-soluble vitamins first.

That’s why cod liver oil isn’t an upgrade or an optional add-on in my routine. It’s the starting line.

If you’re overwhelmed and want a place to begin without dismantling your entire diet, this is the most efficient first move I know.

Start there. Let that do its job.

Everything else gets easier once the foundation is in place.
